Campus Network Upgrades Coming This Summer

This summer, Pitt Digital will conduct a major upgrade of PittNet — the University’s Wi-Fi and wired network, which also supports Eduroam — across the Pittsburgh campus. The following work will begin at the conclusion of the spring term:

•    Installing nearly 4,000 new Wi-Fi access points
•    Upgrading wired network connections
•    Surveying buildings to identify and eliminate coverage gaps

Brief Service Interruptions Building by Building

You may experience brief, localized service interruptions as we work building by building. Pitt Digital will communicate all planned service interruptions in advance via status.pitt.edu and email updates to IT Partners. If a planned outage conflicts with a critical activity in your area, please contact the Technology Help Desk promptly and Pitt Digital will work with you to adjust the schedule.

Simplified Network Names Coming

As part of this modernization effort, simplified network names will become available: PittNet (alternative name to WIRELESS-PITTNET) and Pitt Guest (alternative name to PITT GUEST WI-FI). When connecting new devices, we encourage you to use the new names. Both new and legacy names will continue to work; legacy names will be retired at a future date with significant advance notice. We’ll share more details with the broader campus community this fall.
