Service Announcements
During the past year, Pitt Digital has been working closely with Oracle Data Warehouse users to help them prepare for the migration to our Snowflake Data Warehouse, a modern, flexible platform for data, analytics, and AI. Access to the Oracle Data Warehouse will be disabled on Monday, June 15, and the Oracle Data Warehouse will be fully decommissioned on Wednesday, July 1.

In response to customer feedback and to further enhance security, Pitt Digital is introducing two enhancements on June 10 that will make it simpler and more convenient to recover a forgotten password and log in.
Security Alerts
Timely updates and reboots are essential to maintain the security and integrity of the University’s network. Please take note of the following updates and guidelines in three areas related to cybersecurity:1. Install New Microsoft Patches and RebootToday Microsoft released monthly security updates that affect a wide range of products. It is crucial to promptly identify and install these updates to protect your systems from vulnerabilities. Please adhere to the following installation timelines:

Talent Center will be unavailable <b>Friday, June 12, from 6 p.m. to Sunday, June 14, at noon</b> while the system receives an update. The maintenance period was determined by the HCM Solutions Team. The HCM Solutions Team has completed checks to ensure that the system is ready for the update. In the unlikely event of an issue, the HCM Solutions Team will closely collaborate with Oracle to determine the cause and resolve the issue. If the outage period is extended, an update will be provided at https://status.pitt.edu.

Pitt Digital will be performing network infrastructure upgrades during six overnight maintenance windows in June and July from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. During these periods, the buildings listed below may experience one or more brief, intermittent interruptions — typically around 15 minutes — to PittNet Wi-Fi, wired connectivity, telephony, and related network services, including internet access to cloud providers and external resources, as well as remote access via PittNet Virtual Private Network (GlobalProtect). MyResNet Wi-Fi service is not impacted.

In the News
Pitt Digital is leading a major Network Modernization Initiative, installing nearly 4,000 new Wi-Fi access points across all non-residential Oakland campus buildings to eliminate coverage gaps and dropped connections. The project — described as the largest single deployment of wireless equipment since PittNet was established — involves comprehensive wireless signal surveys, infrastructure upgrades, and compatibility improvements to ensure seamless connectivity as users move throughout buildings.

Pitt Digital has worked with the vendor to resolve the issue. Full service has been restored. We continue to monitor the service closely to ensure continued reliability and stability. If you encounter any additional enterprise data storage issues, please report them to the Technology Help Desk.

Success Stories
Before surgeons perform knee replacements, they need to know exactly how the patient’s knee is aligned. That means manually placing markers on an X-ray of the patient’s full leg from hip to ankle and measuring the precise angles that will guide the procedure. It’s a task that must be done for every patient, takes roughly 15 minutes each time and must be completed by a surgeon whose time is among the most expensive in medicine.
