As previously announced, Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 on Tuesday, Oct. 14. To protect from increased security risks, Pitt Digital will restrict all devices running Windows 10 from accessing University resources starting Tuesday, Nov. 11. This applies to both University-owned and personal devices.
Upgrade to Windows 11 for Continued Access
We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition to Windows 11, which offers enhanced security and an improved user experience. Devices managed by Enterprise Device Management (EDM) are eligible to be updated to Windows 11 by the appropriate IT support groups, provided they meet the necessary hardware requirements. All other compatible University-owned devices not under EDM, as well as personal devices connecting to University resources, should be upgraded to Windows 11 by following these instructions.
Options for Non-Compatible Devices
For devices that cannot upgrade to Windows 11 due to compatibility issues, an Extended Security Update (ESU) license is required. This license will not only ensure your device continues to receive critical security updates, but it will also allow continued access to University resources. Here's how to proceed:
- University-owned devices (EDM and non-EDM): Purchase an ESU license via PantherExpress. Prices are $1 for the first year, $2 for the second year, and $4 for the third year.
- Personal devices connecting to University resources: Visit Microsoft's support page for details on purchasing an ESU licenses directly from Microsoft, starting at $30 per device.
