Starting this month, exporting or printing a Salesforce report will require an extra verification step, a security enhancement designed to protect data from unauthorized access. The rollout is gradual, so users may encounter this change at any point in July.Users will verify their identity using a one-time passcode sent to their email address. Once verified, users will remain authenticated for up to two hours before being prompted again.

The University’s Enterprise Web Infrastructure (EWI) environment will be retired on August 6, 2027, and websites currently hosted within will need to transition to a new platform before that date. This transition affects anyone who owns or manages a website hosted on EWI.Why We're Modernizing Pitt's Web HostingEWI has served an important function since 2007. As part of ongoing efforts to modernize and strengthen Pitt's web infrastructure, Pitt Digital, University Communications and Marketing (UCM), and Pitt Research identified three platforms to replace it.

Beginning Thursday, July 9, InCommon, the consortium that provides Digital Certificates for the University, is transitioning from Sectigo to a new certificate platform, CertiNext. Existing certificates remain valid through their expiration dates, and TLS server certificates remain available without change.

On Friday, June 26, Pitt Digital will automatically update GlobalProtect VPN to version 6.2.8 on all University Windows and Mac devices. This update brings enhanced security and improved stability to your VPN experience.What to expect: 

During the past year, Pitt Digital has been working closely with Oracle Data Warehouse users to help them prepare for the migration to our Snowflake Data Warehouse, a modern, flexible platform for data, analytics, and AI. Access to the Oracle Data Warehouse will be disabled on Monday, June 15, and the Oracle Data Warehouse will be fully decommissioned on Wednesday, July 1.  

In response to customer feedback and to further enhance security, Pitt Digital is introducing two enhancements on June 10 that will make it simpler and more convenient to recover a forgotten password and log in.

This summer, Pitt Digital will conduct a major upgrade of PittNet — the University’s Wi-Fi and wired network, which also supports Eduroam — across the Pittsburgh campus. Beginning March 15, Pitt-issued Digital Certificates will need to be renewed more frequently — existing certificates won't be affected until they’re renewed. If you manage servers, websites, or applications that use them, please note the following dates and changes: 

Duo has announced that individuals using Duo Mobile app versions older than 4.85.0 will need to update to the latest version before Tuesday, March 31, to ensure uninterrupted use of Duo multifactor authentication. This update is necessary because Duo is enhancing security by phasing out certain types of digital certificates.Pitt Digital has identified individuals using older versions of the Duo Mobile app and will be contacting them directly via email to ask them to take the following actions:

Effective Feb. 11, Pitt Digital is updating the requirements for University Computing Account passwords to better protect the Pitt community and align with security best practices. With the new 15-character minimum, we encourage you to think of your password as a passphrase—a memorable sequence of words that's easier to remember than a traditional password. Effective Sunday, Nov. 30, devices running macOS 13 (Ventura) will no longer be able to access University resources through PittNet VPN (Pulse Secure) or Global Protect VPN. 

Pitt Digital is introducing the University’s first proprietary generative AI tool, PittGPT, powered by CAI, now available to all faculty and staff as part of our Generative AI @ Pitt offerings. With PittGPT, users can safely access powerful GenAI technology, built to comply with our high security standards for private and restricted University data. Unlike public tools, PittGPT operates within a closed system, ensuring that sensitive data is never shared externally.

Pitt Digital has approved two integrated AI notetaking tools for University use: AI Notes in Teams Premium and Zoom AI Companion. These vendor-native applications enable users to create real-time meeting summaries that increase efficiency and reduce administrative burden.
