This summer, Pitt Digital will conduct a major upgrade of PittNet — the University’s Wi-Fi and wired network, which also supports Eduroam — across the Pittsburgh campus. Duo has announced that individuals using Duo Mobile app versions older than 4.85.0 will need to update to the latest version before Tuesday, March 31, to ensure uninterrupted use of Duo multifactor authentication. Effective Feb. 11, Pitt Digital is updating the requirements for University Computing Account passwords to better protect the Pitt community and align with security best practices. With the new 15-character minimum, we encourage you to think of your password as a passphrase—a memorable sequence of words that's easier to remember than a traditional password. Pitt Digital is introducing the University’s first proprietary generative AI tool, PittGPT, powered by CAI, now available to all faculty and staff as part of our Generative AI @ Pitt offerings. With PittGPT, users can safely access powerful GenAI technology, built to comply with our high security standards for private and restricted University data. Unlike public tools, PittGPT operates within a closed system, ensuring that sensitive data is never shared externally.

Pitt Digital has approved two integrated AI notetaking tools for University use: AI Notes in Teams Premium and Zoom AI Companion. These vendor-native applications enable users to create real-time meeting summaries that increase efficiency and reduce administrative burden.

PeopleSoft and PeopleSoft/HighPoint Campus Experience (CX) will be unavailable during scheduled maintenance to the Student Information System taking place overnight from Saturday, Oct. 19, at 11 p.m. until Sunday, Oct. 20, at 7 a.m. The maintenance will be performed by the vendor, Sierra-Cedar.

TeamDynamix, which includes Pitt Information Technology’s Services Portal and Knowledge Base at services.pitt.edu, as well as the TDAdmin, TDNext and TDClient services will unavailable from midnight to 4 a.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 19, while the vendor (TeamDynamix) performs a system upgrade.

Copilot for Microsoft 365 is now available for purchase by University departments as an add-on to Microsoft 365.

Pitt Information Technology, in partnership with Health Sciences, Swanson School of Engineering, the University Library System, the Health Sciences Library System, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, and the vendor Symplectic will be upgrading the current Faculty Information System to a more modern, cloud-based version of Symplectic Elements.

PeopleSoft and PeopleSoft/HighPoint Campus Experience (CX) may be unavailable briefly during scheduled maintenance to the Student Information System taking place overnight Saturday, Aug. 17, at 11 p.m. until Sunday, Aug. 18, at 7 a.m. The maintenance will be performed by the vendor, Sierra-Cedar.

Apogee is experiencing an issue that is affecting Residence Hall Wi-Fi (MyResNet) access in Darragh Street Apartments on the Pittsburgh campus. Students affected by the issue are having issues connecting or staying connected to the network named MyResNet-5G. As a workaround, students impacted by the issue can connect their devices to the network named MyResNet-2G, which does not appear to be affected by the issue.

Microsoft is updating the Teams desktop app for Windows and Mac for all remaining users of the classic version by Monday, July 1. After this date, the classic version will no longer function. The new Teams desktop client offers a faster, simpler, and more flexible experience with the following enhancements:

Changes to the University’s licensing agreement with Zoom are set to take effect July 1, 2024. The changes involve the Premium services (large capacity meetings and webinars) options for Zoom licensing through the University. The Zoom license add-ons for these premium services will be available in PantherExpress starting July 1. Pricing is as follows:

  Pitt Information Technology will update the University’s Wi-Fi certificate at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, as part of our required annual renewal process to maintain security. Wi-Fi services will remain uninterrupted during the renewal. However, students, faculty, and staff may be prompted to trust or accept the renewed certificate the first time that they connect to Pitt Wi-Fi after May 28. Trusting the certificate is required to securely access Pitt Wi-Fi services.
