Cybersecurity Awareness
Pitt Digital has taken steps to strengthen security following this spring's Canvas data breach, an incident that affected more than 100 institutions and led Instructure, Canvas's parent company, to pay a ransom to the hacking group responsible. John Duska, Pitt Digital's chief information security officer, noted that while no software vendor can be fully hack-proof, Pitt Digital continues to focus on vendor risk assessment, faster detection, and clear communication with the campus community when incidents occur.

With the new semester just around the corner, it’s time to get your software set-up started. By the time you collect all your syllabi and set up your study schedule, the last thing you’ll want to think about is how to download Word. But no matter when you choose to set up your software, Pitt Digital has your back.
Service Announcements
On Wednesday, Aug. 12, the legacy WIRELESS-PITTNET and PITT GUEST WI-FI network names (SSIDs) will be retired on the Pittsburgh campus. To avoid connection disruptions, individuals on campus before Aug. 12 should update saved Wi-Fi connections on their devices to PittNet (for students, faculty, and staff) or Pitt Guest (for visitors). Those returning to campus after Aug. 12 will simply need to connect using the appropriate network name upon arrival. Eduroam remains unchanged.
In the News
Pitt Digital offers several resources to help students save money on computers ahead of fall semester. Before buying, students can consult Pitt's purchasing guide to determine actual specs needed, use campus Student Computing Labs or the Virtual Computing Lab for paid software, borrow a Chromebook through the need-based loaner program, or get software issues fixed through Drop-In Support at the University Store on Fifth and Hillman Library.
