On Saturday, I had the honor of walking across the stage and turning my tassel, officially becoming a Pitt alumna. I’ve been reflecting on the last four years at Pitt. As a Pitt IT student blogger, I’ve especially thought about all the tech tools that I really loved … and wish I’d taken full advantage of a lot sooner.

Pitt Information Technology will update Shibboleth — the system that enables Pitt Passport for secure, single sign-on access to multiple University services — on Saturday, May 10, between 11 and 11:30 p.m. Although no service disruptions are anticipated, Pitt IT encourages you to report any issues to the Technology Help Desk at +1-412-624-HELP (4357).

Pitt Information Technology will perform overnight network maintenance beginning on Friday, May 9, at 11 p.m., through Saturday, May 10, at 3 a.m. The Pittsburgh campus will experience disruptions to Wi-Fi and wired network connectivity during the upgrade process. For example, network connectivity to cloud providers, websites, or other internet resources from campus or the datacenter, or accessing campus resources remotely from GlobalProtect or other external services may be affected during the above maintenance window.

By inviting input from diverse stakeholders, Pitt Digital aims to ensure agility and effectiveness in meeting future challenges, leveraging technology to advance the University's goals and enhance the digital campus environment.

Pitt Digital and Amazon Web Services opened the Health Sciences and Sports Analytics Cloud Innovation Center, powered by AWS, to drive advancements in AI and data analytics. Students play a central role in this initiative, gaining real-world experience by working on innovative projects that benefit both the University and broader communities. The Center aims to provide students with opportunities to develop technical skills and contribute to cutting-edge solutions in these fields.

This provides our findings regarding the network service interruption the University experienced on May 1. On behalf of Pitt IT, we extend our apologies for the inconvenience that this issue caused the Pitt community. The issue began at approximately 11:30 a.m. and was resolved by 5:25 p.m. The root cause was determined to be a network configuration change made to a nonstandard device in our data center. The device was part of a colocation agreement Pitt IT has with another campus group. The change disrupted network traffic, affecting services hosted at the Data Center. At the time of the change, Pitt IT was following an end-of-term “change freeze” where all system changes/modifications were placed on hold. Pitt IT is taking the following steps to address this mishap and prevent similar issues from reoccurring: • Communicate and enforce change freeze procedures for all services at the Data Center • Evaluate additional technical safeguards to enhance the automated protections Pitt IT already has in place • Streamline and improve processes for announcing major unplanned outages Our commitment to continuously improving the services and support we provide to the Pitt community is our highest priority. Power appears to have been restored campus wide. Affected Greensburg campus services, including MyResNet Wi-Fi, are coming back online. Pitt IT is monitoring services closely and will post any additional updates to status.pitt.edu.

The University of Pittsburgh and Amazon Web Services have launched a Health Sciences and Sports Analytics Cloud Innovation Center, where paid student interns will begin developing applications to tackle real-world challenges in healthcare and sports starting this summer.

This Center, unique in the region and one of only four in North America, will provide students with internships and AI training. On April 23, representatives from Pitt Information Technology and Amazon Web Services (AWS) will gather at the Tech Building on Fifth Avenue to officially launch an exciting new partnership: the University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences and Sports Analytics Cloud Innovation Center, powered by AWS.

The ribbon was cut Wednesday on the first Amazon Web Service-powered Cloud Innovation Center on the East Coast at the University of Pittsburgh. The new Health Science and Sports Analytics Cloud Innovation Center will provide students with internship opportunities to pursue data driven research in the two namesake fields.

In a landmark partnership that promises to transform both health sciences research and athletics, Pitt and Amazon Web Services have announced the establishment of the University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences and Sports Analytics Cloud Innovation Center, powered by AWS. As the first CIC on the East Coast and the first to have a specialized focus on health sciences and sports analytics, this initiative represents a significant milestone in the application of cloud computing and artificial intelligence to these innovative fields.
